Greedy Goblin Apprentice

Greedy goblin: The first apprentice

Interesting article about Gevlon and how he is going to try and teach someone how to make money who has not been able to make gold before.  I hope this player learns how to make WoW gold and is able to learn what he needs to.

Thanks for the fun blog post Gevlon.

Book of Glyph Mastery

Hot Item of the Week- Book of Glyph Mastery
The Book of Glyph Mastery is something of a ‘perfect storm’ in terms of profit potential: It’s new, it is extremely rare (for now), highly desired and can be found by just about anyone. Put another way, these books are extremely high in demand while being severely limited in quantity. When we see that formula, we can’t help but think ‘opportunity’ and here are a few reasons why you should as well.

One of the hottest items for sale right now is [Book of Glyph Mastery]. I was going to discuss this but Wowenomics beat me too it so I am linking to them now. I have considered how much this should go for. In our trade chat we had people going up to 4k for it. To make it worth 4k you would need to get a high demand glyph and then be able to sell 40 of them at 100g to get your money back. To me that price seems a little high. I would consider paying 1k for it right now, but in the future the price should probably settle down. Really it probably depends on your server and your luck on how much one of these really are worth. Rather than depend on luck I would probably sell the books until the prices come down.

3.1 Pre weekend results

It has been a great week so far.  On release night I sold glyphs faster than I could put them up.  My server was more shaky than others so it slowed down after an hour - but the sales continue.  I made 3-4k gold on the first night and my inscriptionist only knows about 1/2 the glyphs. I made 20 [Shifting Twilight Opal]s and they all sold for around 20g(first 5 sold for 40g) - I got the gems pretty much for nothing. My [Pristine Black Diamond]s sold for 25g each and I bought them for 20s-1g each. I sold about 20 of these. My [Black Diamond]s sold for 5g each at first, and then slowed down. I bought them for 1sp-10sp each. I am guessing they will keep selling slowly as more people level Jewelcrafting. [Icy Dragonscale]s have not sold many of those since the patterns have not dropped for them yet. I am hoping today the server is more stable and that I can start unloading them. My twink items are selling at a good pace. I stocked up on [Spider's Silk] and so far I have sold a fair amount of items made from that.

I have paid for my dual specs for four characters and made more money on top of that. I think the Glyph market will be good through the weekend and then it will slow down and eventually settle back to pre 3.1 prices - except for the glyphs learned from Book of Glyph Mastery which will probably maintain a 100g price tag for a while. I have not seen one of these for sale or in the AH.

HOW TO - Using LilSparky's Workshop to earn gold with tradeskills

  1. Download and install the addon. Download LilSparky's Workshop
  2. Use one of the supported auction house scanners (Auctioneer, AuctionLite, AuctionMaster, KC_Items/AuctionSpy) to scan the prices at the auction house.
  3. Log on to a character with a trade skill you would like to make money with.
  4. Click on the first column as seen in the image below until the tooltip says using best prices.
  5. Look through the items you can create.  The number on the right indicates how much an item costs to create.  The one on the left indicates how much it will sell/vendor/DE etc for.  If you find an item with low cost mats and high selling price you should consider making them and reselling them.

Does anyone else have other addons they use like this one which makes earning gold at the auction house easier?

3.1 Changes to crafted items

MMO Champion Reagents Changes

There are a lot of changes to crafted items, making many low level items useful for twinks. My favorite one is Spidersilk Drape

Does anyone else have any item changes that have helped them make more WoW gold?

Zul'Drak Farming Spot

Just My Two Copper: Average Joe's Farming Spot - A World of Warcraft Economic Blog
Just to the west of the Argent Dawn camp where you can do Troll Patrol is an amazing farming spot.

I like to call it: Average Joe's Farming Spot. It's quiet, out of the way, and very safe.

Thanks to Markco of JustMyTwoCopper for pointing out this spot. Great for leveling and if you need some greens to DE you should consider it too. The cloth dropping from the mobs will also be good if you are tailor with the increased amount of cloth.

Patch 3.1 10-19 Bracket Twink Crafted Item - Spidersilk Drape

[Spidersilk Drape]

This will be a great twink item for the level 10-19 bracket.  If you don't have a tailor this only takes 150 tailoring to make and it will probably go for a good price come patch day.

[Spider's Silk] is looking to be a great investment for the 3.1 patch.

Dream Shards - Prices to increase?

Just My Two Copper: Dream Shards Are Getting Rarer... Patch 3.1 - A World of Warcraft Economic Blog
So, here's my thinking for Patch 3.1 and I'm already starting to see it with dream shards currently. Here's why I think the supply of dreamshards has hit an all time low:

* There's no content in the game past 5 mans that drops blue loot.
* There are no items in the game worth disenchanting that frequently drop dream shards.
* Players have been buying enchanting mats for months while dream shards were slowly dissappearing from guild banks.

Markco from justmytwocopper is speculating that the prices of Dream Shards will increase in 3.1. He was not correct in 3.0, will be be correct now?

What do you think?

Flask of Stoneblood buffed in 3.1

has been changed from 650 HP to 1300 HP. This will create a new demand by tanks who have been avoiding the flask and just using Elixirs since they provided a lot better benefit. If you make these flasks saving them for after 3.1 could be useful if the prices go up due to the better buff provided.

Leatherworking: Leg Armor Kits

Leatherworking: Leg Armor Kits
By far, this is my most consistent market I participate in. Demand remains constant, prices are going to keep going up, and materials for the kits always costs less than the finished product. Back in Burning Crusade, leg armor kits where my main source of income, which I wrote an article on a while back. This method had an estimated 6000g per hour!

Interesting market that I have not had a chance to get into yet. The article explains a lot about how it works for the author on his server. Something to keep in mind if you are a leatherworker.

The Green Hills of Stranglethorn Vale

Guest Post: The Green Hills of Stranglethorn Vale
Start collecting pages. Pages of the same number DO stack, so buy them for some low price (25 silver is a good target) and start making collections. Once you have a full collection, start selling them as a full set, and you will make a huge profit.

This tip has always been a good idea. A lot of people are lazy and don't want to gather these items. Now with achievements added in, the low level players in this area should be able to cash in on the lazy high level achievement players.

Thanks to warcraftecon.net for providing this tip.

3.1 Patch Preparation

Every patch is a change to earn some gold based on the changes. I have been doing a number of things to prepare for the patch due to some things changing and just the way people play.

1. Enchanting Mats - I have a small stockpile of these that I am saving to sell around patch day and the weeks afterward. I think the prices of enchanting mats are too low currently and that they will go up for a while after the patch.

2. [Icy Dragonscale] - These are going to be needed for a lot of the new crafted recipes that drop in Ulduar. I have been buying them up at a price of 1.2g each or less. The best part about this item is that it vendors for 1g so if this investment does not work I will not lose much.

3. [Black Diamond] and [Pristine Black Diamond] - Black Diamonds are dirt cheap on my server and will be used in a new JCing recipe. Pristine Black Diamonds are needed for raising a reputation to get the title "The Insane". There will be quite a few people wanting to do this.

4. Gems - I thinks gems will be going up in price after the patch. Even with the incoming epic gems, those epic gems are unique equipped and only drop from a fishing quest so each character can only have 1 of these equipment. With all the new equipment that is going in Uldaur and more casuals leveling up, gem prices should go up or remain steady.

Are you doing any preparation for 3.1 and if so what are you doing?

LilSparky's workshop - Great Addon for Tradeskill moneymaking

Greedy goblin: LilSparky & Batch posting
The LilSparky's workshop is a simple, but very handy addon, its effect can be seen on the picture. It shows my tradeskill window and as you can see, it shows the Auctioneer prices next to each item, so you can find what's profitable and what is a cheap leveling item. This way you can quickly find what to craft.

I have found this addon a great help when trying to find new sources of income. It can sort by the most profit from crafting and reselling an item based on AH scans. Any serious goldmaker should use this addon.

Enchanting Vellums

Hot Item of the Week- Enchanting Vellums « WoWenomics
We have come to love vellums and the profit they generate. Only a few of the people behind the WoWenomics project are actually enchanters themselves but now, with the introduction of weapon and armor vellums into the game, there is finally a way for the rest of us to make some gold off of the enchanting profession.

Great article that discusses how to make money off of Vellums. I have found selling enchants to be a great alternative to selling the mats. [Enchant Boots - Icewalker] is one of the main ones I have used to sell my enchanting mats. Anyone else have any enchants that sell well?

Spider Silk Boots - Great twink item being made better

Guest Post: Spidersilk Boots

I have been selling this item - usually 3-4 a week - pre 3.1 patch. Now the boots are being improved and every low level caster twink will want them.
Thanks to Warcraft Econ for bringing these changes up.

Low Level Cloth

Time is Money: Low-level cloth

While any cloth is worth farming, there are two types in particular, wool and mageweave, that fetch a high price. This is because, compared to the other types of cloth, they have a short window of appearance when leveling. Depending on how often you linger when questing, you practically jump straight from linen to silk, and from silk to runecloth.

To add to this, Blizzard has increased the speed at which we level, and even added bind on account shoulder armor that speeds us up even more. You can even Recruit-a-Friend for an unprecedented bonus.

The advent of achievements has also increased the demand for cloth, as people are eager to earn reputation, become pirates and then buddy up to the goblins again, and maximize professions. So how can you best take advantage of this market?

This article gives you some locations to farm for these kinds of cloth - works really well when you are an enchanter and can DE all the BoP items you can find from the bosses in the instances too.  Don't forget to see if there are any sellable items that you could make instead of selling the cloth as well.  Sometimes these make more money than just selling the cloth.  If the items you can create with the cloth don't sell, you can also DE them.

Making money with Inscription

Inscription Glyph & Market
Guest Post: Inscription & Glyph Market
This money making tip is about selling glyphs, not darkmoon cards, which is not a bad method of profiting also. Gevlon from Greedy Goblin also loves the glyph industry.

Inscription Glyph & Market II

Guest Post: Inscription & Glyph Market II
Let’s take a look at another perspective on the Glyph market, many of our readers found the previous guest post on glyphs to have non-typical results. Here is a more conservative and in-depth look into the market.
Two different articles on making money with inscription.  With dual specs coming out now seems like a great time to take a look at making some money on it.  After 3.1 cools off, there could be less glyph purchases given the people who only switch between two specs will not need new glyphs.

Old Flasks safe for 3.1 patch

World of Warcraft - English (NA) Forums -> Change to Flasks in 3.1.0
* Change to Flasks in 3.1.0
As many of you have learned, we will be reducing the duration of flask effects so that they only last one hour. However, all recipes that create flasks will create two instead of one for the same material cost. Additionally, we will be increasing stack size from 5 to 20 as we anticipate players will need to carry more flasks at a given time. Vendor value for flasks has also been reduced to keep the auction house deposit low.

Our goal with the change was to allow players greater flexibility when determining how long they plan to raid, as currently we were seeing many players balance time spent raiding around flask duration. We also anticipate that this change will make using flasks in dungeons and battlegrounds a more reasonable decision for players. Though this change will not occur until patch 3.1.0, we wanted to give as much advance notice as possible in case some of you who are stockpiling flasks would prefer to wait to do so until the change is implemented.

We realize players who currently have stockpiled a lot of flasks may feel like they will lose money with this change, since their current flasks will only last for half as long once 3.1.0 goes live. To partially remedy this, we are going to allow players to exchange any current Northrend flasks (Flask of the Frost Wyrm, Flask of Stoneblood, Flask of Endless Rage and Flask of Pure Mojo) for two flasks with the shorter duration. Flasks from older content will not be grandfathered in, and going forward, it will only be possible to make the flasks with a one hour duration.

If you have any Flask supplies worry not, Blizzard has made a solution to the change. Each current Northrend flask can be exchanged for two flasks with shorter duration.
So if you are going to use those flasks, keep them. If not, sell them when the price is right.

Complete the Cheese For Glowergold Daily Cooking Quest

WoWenomics
3 Easy Ways to Complete the Cheese For Glowergold Daily Cooking Quest
Thanks to Wowenomics for providing this tip.  This cooking daily is often very frustrating because there are 10 people standing around trying to get the wine.

Places to get the wine:

  1. Near the quest giver
  2. In the cheese shop
  3. In the sewer
By doing these quests you can either sell the [Northern Spices] on the AH (Wowhead lists these as 5g average) or you can get the meat and cook up one of the many foods to resell.

Making money while waiting for Naxxramas Raid to begin

I have found that sometimes people just stand around while the Naxxramas raid is about to begin.  They fly around on their giant mounts around the summoning stone making it hard to summon and waste time and money.  There are some things that one could do while waiting around and you could still be close to the raid for when it begins.

1. Kreug Oathbreaker - Thanks to Markcos blog post

Just My Two Copper: Kreug's Sword - Easy Quick Wow Gold - A World of Warcraft Economic Blog
Kreug Oathbreaker just outside of Naxx drops a 6 gold gray sword 43% of the time. Combined with his chance to drop up to 7 frostweave cloth makes him a worthwhile kill on the way to your nightly raid.
This is a quick check for a fast 6 gold as long as you can kill him.

2. Farming Ice Revenants - These are great to farm because they drop [Crystallized Water] - which is used in 20 recipes, and they create [Eternal Water] - which is used in 56 different recipes.  You can sell these on the AH or even better use them to craft items to sell on the AH.  They also drop a lot of grays which can be sold.

3. Farming Meat and Skinning - You are going to be using some food during your raid so you might as well farm some while waiting if you need it.  You get a bonus if you are skinner too. [Chunk O' Mammoth] is easy to farm with some groups of Mammoths that wander around the Wyrmrest Temple.  [Worm Meat] is also not too hard to find. Up in the north there are a lot of worms by the Crystal Vice that drop the meat 50% of the time.

4. Fishing - A great item can be fished in this zone. [Dragonfin Angelfish] can be fished in some areas in the zone (map) and it makes the some of the best stat food. Strength and Agility food is made from these.

These four things provide something anyone can do while sitting around waiting for a raid to start in the Dragonblight. What do you do when you are waiting for a raid to start?
